Aeroflot Suspended from the SkyTeam Alliance

April 28. After more than two months, conflict continues to rage on in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country. Russian companies across various sectors have subsequently faced widespread sanctions due to the country’s military aggression. Aeroflot, its flag carrier, has now been barred from SkyTeam as a result.

In a short statement released on its website, the SkyTeam group confirmed yesterday that it had temporarily suspended Aeroflot’s alliance membership. It is worth noting that the alliance appears to have come to this decision on a mutual basis, having agreed on the temporary suspension with the Russian flag carrier.

Of course, this is far from the only sanction that Aeroflot has faced since Russia invaded Ukraine two months ago. Indeed, as Simple Flying reported earlier this month, the US Department of Commerce has also prohibited the airline from maintaining its Boeing aircraft.
