June 29. More than 20 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have now been given in Argentina, government data showed on Tuesday morning.
The government’s mass vaccination campaign got underway in December last year, with citizens nationwide now having received 20,221,697 doses. Of those, 16.2 million people have received the first doses, with 3.99 million receiving both.
Of the almost 25 million vaccines received by Argentina’s government, approximately 9.4 million correspond to the Russian-made Sputnik V show (7.8 million of component 1; 1.5 million of component 2); around six million have come from the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm; 580,000 are Astrazeneca-Covishield (Indian made); 1.9 million are Astrazeneca-Oxford University jabs acquired through the World Health Organization’s COVAX mechanism; and another seven million are Astrazeneca shots which were co-produced locally, with the active ingredient manufactured in Argentina.
Vaccine supplies are due for another top-up in the coming few days – early on Monday, a flight from state-run airline Aerolineas Argentinas departed for Moscow in search of a new batch of Sputnik V doses.
