December 10. Cases of COVID-19 in Canada have begun to increase. Last Friday, Ottawa, warned that the rapid spread of the Omicron variant abroad should be a “serious red flag” for those who want to travel.
Canada has so far recorded 87 cases of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant, all of them asymptomatic or mild. Most of the initial cases detected were related to recent international travelers or their close contacts.
The Omicron variant has been reported in 57 countries and the number of patients requiring hospitalization is likely to increase as it spreads, the World Health Organization said Wednesday.
Canada is blocking entry to people who have recently been to 10 southern African countries and is requiring all those arriving by air to undergo COVID-19 testing. The measure does not apply to flights from the United States.
