August 23. On Friday, the CDC fired another salvo at the beleaguered cruise industry by advising the public that REGARDLESS OF VACCINATION STATUS, passengers with pre-existing medical conditions are at higher risk for contracting Covid-19 variants onboard cruise ships.
Specifically, the guidance applies to older adults, people with pre-x medical conditions, pregnant, or recently pregnant people. The warning covers ocean and river cruises.
Previously, the CDC had only advised that those who are not fully vaccinated avoid travel on cruise vessels.
The change comes as the Covid surge in the U.S. continues, especially in Florida, where the majority of cruises from the U.S. are currently sailing from.
