Chilean Universities Approved to Develop COVID-19 Vaccines

The Ministry of Health approved clinical trials of two coronavirus vaccines. The vaccine trials are to be  carried out by Sinovac Biotech and Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies in collaboration with leading Universities Schools of Health Science. 

Men and women between ages 18 and 59, may volunteer to enroll in the trials, which will be held at the University of Chile and the Catholic University Health System.  People who have already contracted Covid-19, or pregnant women, will not be allowed to participate in the initial phase of the trials.  The trails aim at enrolling 3,000 people.   

At the same time, the Ministry of Health continues to evaluate data from the phase-3 clinical trial of the AstraZeneca vaccine initiative.
