The Minister of Health, Dr. Plutarco Arias, leading the press conference to follow up on the incidents of the Coronavirus, said that if progress continues to be made in reducing positive cases of COVID-19, the country will be able to control the spread of the virus in less time, as long as people assume physical distancing, use of masks and hygiene measures.
Dr. Arias highlighted that the rate of positivity of COVID-19 tests has been trending downwards for the past four weeks, with an average rate of 17 percent. This suggests that testing coverage has improved, thanks to the efforts of the institutions that make up the Public Health Cabinet.
“We urge social organizations, community leaders and town halls to continue with prevention and education actions in their communities, because only coordinated work and communities will be able to overcome COVID-19 and recover the normal functioning of social life and the economy”.
Dr. Mario Lama, executive director of the National Health Service (SNS) said that this improving trend in COVID-19 indicators does not mean that the health situation has been overcome and that changes in policy may occur based on conditions at any epidemiological moment.
