A first donation of equipment, reagents and medical supplies was made to enable the Galapagos Islands medical center’s laboratory to reach the standards required for its accreditation by the Agency for Quality Assurance of Health Services and Prepaid Medicine (ACESS).
“The equipment delivered to the hospital today will contribute to the strengthening of the provincial health system in Galapagos, since positive cases of COVID-19 will be detected, as well as other diseases such as dengue and malaria. This donation is a demonstration of the commitment of the GSC and the USFQ-Extension Galapagos to reinforce the well-being and security of the population of Galapagos” said Carlos Mena, co-director of the Galapagos Science Center.
It is expected that the donation, valued at 100 thousand dollars, will generate a better detection capacity in the Galapagos Island, for both residents and visitors, before the resumption of flights to encourage tourism.
