June 26. Analysis of Google search terms is modern society’s predictive analysis of what will probably happen in the near future. As it relates to travel, it seems that good things are ahead as data published by Google indicates substantial pent-up demand for travel.

The company says search for travel related matters in May was up 270% compared with May 2020 and that the figure is likely to rise as more people are vaccinated.

Google points to research revealing changing needs and concerns of consumers. Skyscanner, for example, stated that “travel companies are seeing an increase in advance bookings for later in the year”.

Additionally, searches for the term “beach holiday” have been steadily rising in 2020 but “city breaks” are not yet recovering compared to 2019 levels. Activities also seem to be on consumers’ minds, with the term “rentals near me” seeing global growth of 100% year-on-year. Top searches in this category include “kayak rentals near me,” “bike rentals near me” and “boat rentals near me.”

Google’s tips help marketers plan their marketing campaigns based on monitoring search trends. The data allows for tailoring strategies for distinct audiences.
