The Ministry of Health confirmed 8,581 new cases last week, which represents 172 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure places Costa Rica ahead of the USA and 7th from the bottom of the list of countries with highest infection rate. (Aruba, Bahrain, Israel, Andorra, Montenegro and Argentina).
Since March 10, Costa Rica had 621 deaths related to the pandemic, and during the month of September recorded three of the deadliest days on record. It is important to note that the country has only 359 intensive care beds, and 986 beds for less complex hospitalization. 68% of ICU beds in Costa Rica are occupied with patients who have complex Covid-19 cases.
