Mexico Tourism Posts US$8.6 Billion Revenue in Q-1 2022 from International Tourism

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that from January to April 2022, foreign exchange income from international tourists from January to April 2022 was 8 thousand 673.1 million dollars, this it is 123.8% more compared to the first quarter of 2021; also surpassing with 3.7% the currencies of the same period 2019.

The head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) highlighted that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey published by INEGI, between January and April 2022, 11 million 644 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 43.4 % more compared to what was collected in the same period of 2021; being 20.8% away from reaching 14.7 million international tourists in the same period of 2019.

He pointed out that the average expenditure of international tourists in the January-April 2022 period was 744.9 dollars, which means 56.1% more compared to 2021, and also exceeding by 30.8% the 569.3 dollars registered in the same period of 2019.

The Secretary of Tourism reported that from January to April 2022, the balance of the balance for international visitors was 7 thousand 338.3 million dollars, this is 137% more than what was registered in 2021; also exceeding with 22.2% the balance captured in the same period of 2019, which was 6 thousand 3.8 million dollars.
