Richard Branson’s struggling airline, Virgin Atlantic, won a bailout from the U.K. government on Tuesday, and is now betting on free COVID-19 insurance to spur bookings. The partnership with Allianz Global Assistance is planned to last until March 31st of next year and will offer policies that cover up to $650K, including COVID-19. “We believe this complimentary cover will provide some added reassurance for our customers as they start to plan trips further afield,” Juha Jarvinen, Virgin’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement. Emirates, Spain’s Canary Islands, and Portugal have announced similar programs.
