Princess Cancels 11 Sailings of Diamond Princess Due to Labor Shortage

North America

Aug 10. Princess Cruises this week experienced another challenge to its operations in the post-pandemic world. The cruise lines said over the past year it has operated hundreds of cruises thanks to the tens of thousands of Princess team members that have rejoined the fleet to deliver Princess vacations.

But like others in the global travel industry, Princess says it has experienced some severe labor challenges. With rising occupancy levels on the ships that have already returned to service and the line’s commitment to guarantee the Princess experience, Princess has made the difficult decision to cancel a limited number of voyages (11 sailings) on the Diamond Princess out of San Diego beginning Sept. 1, 2022 through Nov. 13. Princess said this will provide it with the additional time needed to overcome its labor challenges. The cruises had been scheduled to depart from September to mid-November and visit the Mexican Riviera, California coast and Hawaiian islands.

Guests with bookings during this time period will be offered three options, either a transfer to an equivalent cruise with a $100 per person to spend onboard, a future cruise credit offer of 100 percent value of cruise fare paid plus a $100 on board cruise credit person, or a cash refund. Princess will protect all travel agency commissions on all bookings paid in full as of Monday, Aug. 8.
